BY-LAWS

The Haralson County Historical Society, Inc.
Revised January 2000

Article I

Membership and Dues
Section 1.  Any person interested in the history of Haralson County, who applies for membership in any class of membership and tenders the necessary dues shall thereby become a member.  Any individual member may vote at a meeting of the society.  Any class of membership, other than those which are for life, may be changed annually.

Section 2.  Membership shall be of seven (7) classes.
  1. Founder Membership - A person, group, or firm offering special financial support to the society with a gift of one thousand dollars shall be eligible. ($1,000)
  2. Founding Associate Membership - A person, group, or firm offering special support ot the society with a gift of five hundred dollars shall be eligible. ($500)
  3. Individual Life Membership - Dues for individual life members shall be two hundred dollars in one payment. ($200)
  4. Family Active Membership - A family interested in the purpose of the society shall be eligible.  Annual dues are set by the executive committee.
  5. Individual Active Membership - Any single individual interested in the purpose of the society shall be eligible.  Annual dues are set by the executive committee.
  6. General Active Membership - Students shall be eligible, and individuals on a fixed or limited income, such as older citizens supported by Social Security, shall be eligible upon their request.  Annual dues shall be one dollar. ($1.00)
  7. Honorary Membership - An honorary lifetime non-voting membership may be conferred upon anyone whose activities have contributed to the objectives of the society.  Honorary members shall be elected once a year by a three-fourths vote of members present at the meeting held in the month of May.  Written nominations must be submitted to the president within three months prior to the May meeting.
Section 3.  Annual dues shall be payable in advance and shall become due on or before the meeting held in the month of June.  Members in arrears more than six months after payment is due shall be dropped from membership.  Persons dropped from the membership because of non-payment of dues may re-join the society as new members.  Members joining after December 30 in any given year, with the exception of life, or founder membership shall pay on one-half a year's dues.
